Reading

Early Reading

For our Early Reading programme we have chosen to use 'Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised'. Alongside daily Little Wandle phonics sessions children will read twice a week in a group led by an adult.

Reading at home

Your child will have two types of books to read at home. A reading practise book and a library book to share.

Reading practise book

We use the Collins Hub to assign online Little Wandle reading books. Your child will be assigned the book that they have read in school at the end of the week so they can read it at home with you. This book is carefully matched to your child’s current reading level. If your child is reading it with little help, please don’t worry that it’s too easy – your child needs to develop fluency and confidence in reading. If they can’t read a word, ask them to decode (sound it out) and blend it. After they have finished, talk about the book together. They will be given a username and password  to access these books once they have started reading groups in school school. https://www.collinshub.co.uk/login

Library books to share

Each week your child can choose a book from our library area. In order to encourage your child to become an enthusiastic lifelong reader, it is important that they learn to read for pleasure. Please remember that you shouldn’t expect your child to read this alone. Please read it to or with them. Look at the pictures, enjoy the story, predict what might happen next, use different voices for the characters. The main thing is that you have fun and enjoy the book together!
