Music

‘Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.’ (National Curriculum 2014)

At Bishopthorpe Infant School we give every child the opportunity to create, play, perform and enjoy music. We aim to nurture children’s enjoyment and their interest in music by introducing them to a range of styles and music from different cultures. We provide all children with the opportunity to sing, play instruments and to become active listeners.

At Bishoprthorpe Infant School we use the BBC Bring the Noise and Teach resources which support all the requirements of the national curriculum for Music.

There are additional opportunities for children to be involved in music in school clubs including choir and recorder groups. There is a  peripatetic music teacher, who visits weekly offering guitar lessons.
