Music

‘Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.’ (National Curriculum 2014)

At Bishopthorpe Infant School we give every child the opportunity to create, play, perform and enjoy music. We aim to nurture children’s enjoyment and their interest in music by introducing them to a range of styles and music from different cultures. We provide all children with the opportunity to sing, play instruments and to become active listeners.

At Bishopthorpe Infant School we use Sing Up to encourage and support singing and musical learning. Sing Up helps our children to:

  • Learn to sing well and enjoy singing
  • Develop musical skills and understanding
  • Experience the wider learning and developmental benefits that singing and music making provides
  • Experience long-term benefits to their health and well-being
